I was lucky enough to attend The Great Escape Festival in Brighton this weekend. 3 days of incredible live music – I managed to see 30 artists this year and some of them blew my mind away.
Here are my highlights for this year, artists you need to check out NOW
1. Zak Abel
Zak Abel is one of the best singers-songwriters out there. His performance was incredible and we got to hear for the first time his new song ‘Awakening’. His energy on stage combined with his soulful voice made his performance my favorite highlight of TGE. I look forward to seeing him live again in Brighton next month.
2. Kevin Garrett
I’ve wanted to see Kevin Garrett for a while now so I was really looking forward to his set. He performed a 30 minutes set at St George’s Church – what an amazing setting for an acoustic performance. His voice is absolutely wonderful, watch his performance of my favorite song ‘Refuse’ below
My good friend Alison from UrbanSoul introduced me to Seramic! What a mind-blowing performance, everything was on point – from the quality of the musicians to the lyrics and melodies of his songs. He’s releasing an EP next month, I can’t wait to hear more of him, believe me when I say he’s going to blow up this year!
I was super excited to finally see Mahalia live – I discovered her a few years ago after watching one of her acoustic sessions on Youtube. I absolutely loved the positive energy when she’s on stage. She has a true gift for words, I loved her acapella performance of ‘Back Up’ Plan’ – She’s the queen of storytelling!
5. Sam Wills
I absolutely loved Sam Wills’ performance – He recently released his EP ‘So Bright’ and he’s definitely bringing something new to the soul music scene. Check him out if you don’t know him yet!
Also – I really enjoyed The Dunwells, Craig David, Oktoba and Jack Watts!
