Changing the way we make decisions

We make decisions everyday, big or little. Some of them are really important and will change our life while others are insignificant. The science of decision-making has always fascinated me – according to multiples sources on the web, we make approximately 35.00 decisions each day! Of course it varies between individuals but I find the figure quite impressive.

Today, I had a conversation with one of my friends about how we make decisions. We both have the ‘problem-solver’ mentality so when it comes to our career, we do our best to analyse decide and take action to solve whatever issue we’re facing. But then, we realized that when we need to make a personal decision, our first reaction is to ask people for their input. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a smart move, it’s always good to know what other people think when they have the ability to see the situation from the outside. Looking back on the decisions we have made in the past, we noticed that at some point in our life we all have people who act as ‘influencers’ in the process of our decision-making. ‘Influencers’ are your closest friends and family, they are the people who know you well and want the best for you. They are usually the ones you listen to carefully when you need to take a major decision because yes big changes confuse people, by going to our ‘influencers’ we convince ourselves they would bring us clarity and directions.

I think that we need to understand is that our vision is complete, our inner voice already knows which path we’re meant to take. We need to learn how to listen to ourselves, learn to trust our guts and take full responsibility of our actions. It’s a great thing to ask people for their point of view but they will never perceive things the same way as you do.  Always remember that making your own decisions will strengthen your will power to achieve your life goals. Take back control of your life and let your life be a collection of brilliant decisions that you’ve made for yourself.
