People say actions speak louder than words. Although Charlotte Gomes is definitely one to keep her word — integrity and honour being part of her core values, she built her career around three actions, learn – listen – inspire, three leitmotivs that guide her on a daily basis. Born in France but currently based in Brighton, UK, this well-travelled life enthusiast is as passionate about her work than she is about music, her first love. Along with her fondness for new technologies, this interest led her to design websites for artists at the early age of 12 years old.
Her lust for learning didn’t stop there: later on, she enrolled at the University of Lyon II, in her hometown, in English and Communications. She was quick to understand that theory would never allow her to go far if not paired with practice. She therefore forged her own path, taking the initiative to book and promote various tours all over France for British musicians, while still studying full time. « If your dreams don’t scare you, they aren’t big enough » and Charlotte undeniably knew how to dream big. Only accepting challenges that scare her and always on the grind, she started contacting performers through MySpace and booked her first French tours in 2007, closing deals with renowned venues such as the Hot Club Jazz in Lyon, where Miles Davis played, among others. Keen on following this artist’s development process from A to Z, the young workaholic went a step further and got local media coverage on radio, TV, newspapers and websites (Jazz Radio, TLM, Le Progrès, 20 Minutes etc.).
A degree in her hands — she graduated in 2010, Charlotte decided to tame and listen to the most honest music of them all: her gut feelings. She started working as a freelance and finally got the life-changing opportunity to tour with four different artists between 2012 and 2014. She experienced the realities of the field, booking over 60 shows in three different countries (France, UK, Belgium) for a LA-based singer/songwriter, as well as promoting him on a national scale (Télématin on France 2, Ma Chaîne Etudiante, Toulouse FM etc.). While acknowledging the challenges faced by the music industry, she also got to witness first-hand the positive impact that this beautiful art could have on people’s lives. And that’s when it clicked. Having more than one string to her bow, including a reignited passion for digital music promotion and marketing, she once again refocused on her intuition and did exactly what it confided to her: she created her own agency. After learning and listening, Charlotte found herself a new goal: to inspire, by the medium of music.
In September 2014, Project Light Agency was born, aiming to provide digital services to artists around the world and to impact culture and the audience with positivity. Since then, she has worked with over 20 clients, helped with two crowdfunding campaigns (one having raised over $30000 on Kickstarter) and secured features on Complex, Earmilk, DJ Booth, MOBO, Singersroom, Thisisrnb, Soulbounce, The Huffington Post and more! These impressive stats and numbers are surely encouraging her, but these are not the ultimate game for Charlotte. Ambitious but never thirsty — except for knowledge, she is moving with a purpose. She had indeed been craving for a while to share her experiences, business tips and inspirational thoughts and she made it a reality by launching her own blog in April 2016. Using the power of words and internet, she now hopes to help other people, whether they be entrepreneurs, artists or eternal optimists, to achieve their dreams by LEARNING, LISTENING and INSPIRING each other.
